GENERAL INFORMATION
The following information has been provided as a general guideline for the
use and disposal of Aexcel traffic marking paints. It is also very
beneficial to run a small test in a non-critical area in order to ensure
the surface preparation, weather conditions, equipment and product are
suitable and working properly.
RECOMMENDED USEThis quality coating is intended for use on all
kinds of athletic fields where temporary striping is done. This paint
is "concentrated" and designed to be reduced with water to a viscosity
suitable for the type of spray equipment being used. Brush, roller or
airless applicators may require no thinning.
FIELD PREPERATION
Grass should be cut to a low level. Paint should be applied when grass is
dry, weather not threatening and temerature at least 60#&176;. Drying
time will vary depending on temperarure, humidity and type of applicator.
Lines may also br applied to bare ground and artificial turf.
PAINT PREPERATION
Stir paint with a flat paddle. Thin as required with water. A good
starting point to determine best consistency is to mix equal parts of paint
and water. Stir well to a smooth texture in a clean container. For best
results, strain reduced paint into applicator using cheesecloth or other
suitable material to eliminate possible nozzle pluging.
EQUIPMENT
Tip size, fluid pressure, atomizing air pressure, paint viscosity and paint
temperature are all critical to the appearance, consistency, and performance
of the paint. The equipment must be matched to the paint being applied in
order to achieve the proper film thickness and coverage. Typical tip sizes
for "airless" machines are .019' - .021", while "air atomized" machines use
.086 - .11" at 60 lbs. pressure. For more information please consult the
equipment manufacturer.
PAINT APPLICATION
For the best results, initial lines should be coated twice--once each
direction. Please note that this paint contains no lime or other
ingredients which will harm either the grass or any players who may come
into contact with it once it has dried.
PAINT SELECTION AND SAFETY
Protect these and all water-based coatings from freezing. Use only paint
recommended or specified for each application. Shelter the containers when
possible and avoid prolonged outside storage. Agitation of the paints by
stirring or shaking should be performed to ensure uniform consistency,
application and performance. When storing partially filled containers, a
small amount of water may be added and allowed to stand on top in order to
avoid "skinning". Always be sure the containers are sealed tightly during
transportation or storing in order to avoid spilling, risk of fire and
solvent evaporation. Keep paints away from heat and flame. Consult the
MSDS sheets and/or labels for further safety, personal protection, first-aid
and spill or leak procedures.
WASTE DISPOSAL
Comply with all regulations regarding handling, storage, and disposal of
all hazardous materials and waste. Consult local agencies or disposal
companies for individual instructions and requirements. IMPROPER DISPOSAL
OF PAINT AND THEIR RELATED MATERIALS IS ILLEGAL AND MAY RESULT IN LARGE
FINES. Please comply to all regulations and minimize waste whenever
possible.
